Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) observed Teachers’ Day with enthusiasm to honour the invaluable contributions of its teaching fraternity. The event, organised at the Dr Manmohan Singh Auditorium here today, was graced by the presence of PAU Vice-Chancellor, Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, Deans, Directors, and officers of the university. The on-campus faculty was joined by their counterparts from the PAU outstations and students who gathered to extend gratitude to their teachers for their exemplary role in shaping young minds and guiding future generations.

Paying rich tributes to Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, former President of India, and an eminent philosopher, whose birth anniversary is commemorated as Teachers’ Day across the nation, Dr Gosal commended the dedication, commitment, and relentless efforts of PAU teachers in advancing quality education, research and extension. He said, “Teachers are the torchbearers of knowledge and values. At PAU, our faculty has been instrumental in not only nurturing competent professionals but also in strengthening Punjab’s agricultural landscape.” The Vice-Chancellor reiterated that the collective focused approach to pursue knowledge with purpose and responsibility was instrumental in leading the university from strength to strength.

Beaming with visible pride at the recent top rankings of PAU, Dr Gosal shared that in the Indian Institutional Ranking Framework (IIRF-2025) PAU ranked first among 67 state agricultural universities (SAU’s). In the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF-2025) PAU had once again claimed the numero uno position — ranking first among 75 SAU’s third time in a row. These prestigious rankings were based on a rigorous assessment of academic excellence, research output, placements, industry linkages, faculty quality, diversity and innovation, he added.

Dr Gosal further shared that PAU had added another feather to its cap, by earning a major global distinction by securing the 93rd rank in agricultural sciences in the latest EduRank 2025 list of the world’s top 100 agricultural institutions. Among 14,000 institutions worldwide assessed in this category based on measurable indicators such as research output, citation impact and academic influence, PAU was the only state agricultural university from India to feature in the elite list, he said.

Dr Rishi Pal Singh, university Registrar, emphasised that Teachers’ Day was not just a celebration, but a reaffirmation of the bond between students and teachers. Lauding the distinguished services of teachers towards nurturing responsible citizens and strengthening Punjab’s farming sector by advancing agricultural education, research, innovation and extension, he cited their pivotal role in nation building in the larger sense of the term. He said the legacy of PAU rests on the dedication of its teachers who serve as guides, mentors and lighthouses of knowledge. The recent remarkable entry of PAU into the top 100 agri universities was a powerful indicator of its rising prominence in global agricultural research and education, and aptly reflected the commitment, scientific strength and tireless work ethic of the university fraternity, he shared.
