Though exact reason behind the extreme step taken by the deceased to shoot himself in head is yet to be ascertained, his brother Havildar Vipan Kumar alleged that someone from deceased’s acquaintances, who talked to him on his phone for about 30 minutes, just prior to the incident, had abetted the suicide.
Cops led by inspector Vijendra Singh of Izatnagar police station, Bareilly, had initiated a probe into the sequence of events leading to the suicide after recording Vipan Kumar’s statement.
SHO Sudhar Gurdip Singh informed that a team of senior functionaries of the Indian Air Force had supervised the guard of honour given to the deceased at the Akalgarh crematorium.
He said the local police would extend every possible help to the investigating team from Bareilly police, in case need be.
The Bareilly police are trying to establish the identity of the person with whom the corporal spoke for 30 minutes before shooting himself in the head with his service revolver.
Vipin, who is posted with the Indian Army at Bareilly, said he had planned to meet his brother over the weekend to discuss a proposal to take a leave for their sister’s wedding that is scheduled to take place in January 2026.
Shubham was selected for the Indian Air Force in 2020 and his first posting was in Vadodara (Gujarat), followed by Bareilly where he had been serving since 2024.
Shubham’s father Kaka Ram runs a small shop at a market near Air Force Station Halwara on Mullanpur Raikot Road.
