Amargarh Vaigyanik Welfare Club champions healthcare with eye, body, blood donations

Like all other members of Amargarh’s Vaigyanik Welfare Club, Kulwinder Singh and Gurshaman Preet Kaur are committed to dedicating their lives to the service of humanity in the field of healthcare and medical research.

On the eighth wedding anniversary, the couple reiterated their commitment to the cause by pledging their eyes to the blind and bodies after death for medical research. All this, after organising an annual blood donation camp.

Even though all members of the club might not be organising elaborate events, they contribute to the field of healthcare by either donating blood on special days or planting trees.

The club’s general secretary, Charanjit Singh Alipur, said the organisation had held over 100 blood donation camps at various places during the past around two decades of their active functioning, under the supervision of president Pavitar Singh.

“We have already felicitated restoration of eyesight of 84 persons through donation of eyes by 42 registered members and the bodies of two were donated for research,” said Alipur.

Pavitar said hundreds of people had availed medical and healthcare facilities offered by the organisation. The organisation also arranges for workshops and seminars to sensitise the masses on issues such as drug addiction, lifestyle aberrations and pollution.

Club members claimed that cases of several dreaded diseases like, cancer, cardiovascular ailments etc were identified at early stage during these medical examination camps which otherwise could have remained undetected for a long time.

Office-bearers claimed that the organisation was completely non-political and did not support any particular political party or leaders during election, even though leaders, owing allegiance to different political parties, were invited as guests without any discrimination.
