After the rain wreaked havoc in the city yesterday and collapsed three buildings in old city areas, another century-old building collapsed in Naughara Mohalla early this morning. The incident didn’t cause any casualty or injury to any person.

Notably, the building — located near Sukhdev Thapar’s ancestral house — was being acquired to provide direct access to the martyr’s home.

As per an area resident, the building had been lying abandoned for decades, and some trader had been using the it to keep wooden boxes.

Tribhuvan Thapar, kin of martyr Sukhdev Thapar who also lives in Naughara Mohalla, said the building had reportedly collapsed early this morning. As it was raining heavily, no resident heard anything at the time of collapse. In the morning, he went to bow down at the martyr's house and saw the shattered structure. For precautionary purpose, he immediately went to check if anyone was trapped in the debris. He also informed the Municipal Corporation Commissioner, Aadtiya Dachalwal, about the incident.

The Municipal Corporation had issued notices to dangerous buildings before the monsoon season, but no proper follow-up seemed to have been done for their demolition.
