ASI booked for accepting bribe, ignoring warrants of family court

An ASI posted at City 2 Police Station has been booked under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 259 of the BNS for allegedly seeking and accepting Rs 10,000 as bribe from an accused in lieu of ignoring a conditional warrant issued by a family court at Malerkotla.

The accused cop identified as ASI Narang Singh has been absent from duty since coming to know about the registration of the case at City 1 Police Station, Malerkotla, on Tuesday.

Investigation officer DSP Manavjit Singh Sidhu said a probe had been initiated to verify the sequence of events leading to the alleged crime committed by Narang Singh.

Perusal of records revealed that Additional Principal Judge of the Family Court at Malerkotla had issued a conditional warrant against Kirpal Singh of New Bus Stand, Patiala Road Bhawanigar, h and ASI Narang Singh was deployed to get the warrants executed before December 8.

It was later found by the court that Narang Singh had allowed Kirpal Singh to let go after accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 on November 30.

Narang Singh had stated that Kirpal Singh was not at his home when the raid was conducted and that his father Hari Singh had given in writing that he would be present in court on the hearing date.

Though Kirpal Singh had attended the court as per scheduled, he submitted that he was arrested by Narang Singh on November 30 but was let go after giving a bribe of Rs 10,000.

To substantiate his allegations, Kirpal Singh produced a video clip stored in a flashdrive before the court.

Having received a communiqué from the court on Tuesday, SHO City 1 Baljit Singh registered an FIR against ASI Narang Singh, further investigation of which was entrusted to DSP Manavjit Singh Sidhu.

Sidhu said he had initiated a probe into the sequence of events leading to the of crime by the cop after receiving the case file on Thursday.
