A gruesome incident occurred in Machhiwara on Wednesday when two brothers, Sukhwinderpal Singh and Amarjit, allegedly assaulted a grocer, Harjinder Kumar, with an axe, severing his thumb. The altercation began when the shopkeeper requested Sukhwinderpal to stop bursting firecrackers outside his shop.

According to Harjinder’s complaint, Sukhwinderpal was intoxicated and had earlier blocked a car passing from the area. Afterwards, Sukhwinderpal started bursting crackers. When the grocer intervened in the matter, it led to a confrontation. Later, Amarjit came to the spot and they began causing a disturbance.

The victim alleged that Amarjit wielded an axe and attacked him. The police registered a FIR against the brothers following Harjinder’s complaint. ASI Pawanjit is investigating the case.
