Two persons, including an NRI, were killed, while a woman was critically injured when a taxi they were travelling in rammed into a sugarcane-loaded tractor-trolly near Sugar Mill Chowk here on Thursday night.

The deceased were identified as Australia-based Dilpreet Singh (28) and taxi driver Yuvraj Masih.

The injured woman, identified as Gurinder, mother of Singh, was admitted to the local Civil Hospital for treatment. She was later shifted to DMC, Ludhiana, after her condition deteriorated. The duo were on their way to Ludhiana after landing at Amritsar Airport.

The tractor-trolly driver fled the spot after the accident. Investigating Officer Jatinder Singh said the police have registered a case.
