Students of BBA Semester-1 (NEP) alleged that the paper of Punjabi compulsory was ‘out of syllabus’. They urged Panjab University to cancel the paper or hold re-exam. Earlier, the paper of MSc Botany too had to be cancelled as it gave only partial coverage to the prescribed syllabus.

“I was shocked after seeing the paper. Everything was opposite to what I expected,” said a candidate who appeared in one of the university examination centres at Ludhiana today.

The teachers of various colleges teaching this subject expressed their resentment with the paper setter. “Such callousness on the part of the paper setter should not be tolerated,” said Dr Harjit Singh, Head, Post Graduate Department of Punjabi, Guru Teg Bahadur National College, Dakha.

“This is not the first time that the university has committed such a blunder. Such callousness on the part of the paper setter should not be tolerated,” said Dr Sompal Heera, Head, Post Graduate Department of Punjabi, Guru Nanak National College, Doraha.

Dr Gurpreet Singh, Member, Undergraduate Board of Studies in Punjabi, PU, Chandigarh, said, “The issue needs to be looked into minutely. A thorough probe should be conducted into the matter and decision taken accordingly,” he said.

Harpreet Dua, former Senator, Panjab University, said the university has failed to take the stakeholders into confidence before implementing the New Education Policy. “The students are entirely at the receiving end since they are not all clear of what next? The clarity about major and minor subjects, skill enhancement, value added, multi-disciplinary and ability enhancement baskets is nowhere to be found. It is playing with the future of the students and nothing else,” he added.

Jagat Bhushan, Controller of Examination, Panjab University, said appropriate action would be taken against the paper setter.
