Debi, while addressing a press conference, said that the truth would not change with his ‘cowardly threats’. The truth is that the MLA allegedly demanded a large bribe from the contractor of the historic Dasehra fair at Ludhiana’s Daresi Ground, which distressed the contractor so much that he attempted suicide , he said. Due to the MLA’s corruption, this fair was closed for the first time in the city’s history. This deeply hurt the sentiments of not just the Hindu community but the entire Punjabi Sanatana community.
Instead of apologising to the Hindu community for this unfortunate incident, the ‘arrogant’ MLA held a press conference and issued threats of Vigilance Bureau and of lodging a defamation case. Just as Lord Ram destroyed Ravana’s ego on Dasehra, the Hindu community would destroy the Pappi in the next Assembly elections, he added.
