The project had missed its deadline twice earlier. It was scheduled to be completed in September 2024 and then its deadline coincided with the Smart Cities Mission conclusion on March 31, which was also missed. Now, finally work is going to be completed and the bridge be ready soon.

The bridge was declared unsafe in 2011 and in 2018 and was closed to heavy traffic and then in 2021 it was completely closed to traffic, which was being diverted to an adjacent bridge. A few incidents of bricks falling on commuters passing under the bridge had been reported in the past.

The work for construction of the bridge was entrusted to the department of PWD (B&R) and was funded by Ludhiana Smart City Limited (LSCL). The cost of the project was Rs 8.25 crore and work was started in December 2023 and initially nine months were given for completion.

MLA Madan Lal Bagga said that the work of the bridge was in its final stage as the work for laying of the slabs had already been completed. Opening of this bridge will bring huge relief to the people travelling to and from Jalandhar bypass as presently they have to take an alternate route.
