Ludhiana: Department of physical education of Arya College Girls Section celebrated National Sports Day to commemorate legendary sportsperson Major Dhyan Chand. On the occasion, Dr Suresh Kumar, HoD, Physical Education, Gobind National College, Narangwal, delivered a lecture focusing on the value of sports in and also threw light on the achievements of Major Dhyan Chand. Dr SM Sharma, secretary, ACMC and Principal Dr Suksham Ahluwalia appreciated efforts of the department. Incharge Dr Mamta Kohli stated that in true sense the active participation of students in sports would be a real homage to the legend.

NSS wing and department of physical education of BCM College of Education celebrated National Sports Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of the hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand. NSS coordinator, Manjit Kaur and Parvinder Pal Kaur visited Khasi Kalan Village on August 27. Parvinder Pal Kaur delivered an Extension Lecture highlighting the relevance of Sports and Values instilled by games viz. sportsmanship, discipline, teamwork, perseverance.

Guru Nanak International Public School

The pre-primary wing of Guru Nanak International Public School, Model Town, organised an inter-section quiz contest in the series ‘Chote Ustad’ for the students of Class II. There was an enthusiastic participation of more than 100 students in six different rounds — spell bee, mental ability round, rapid fire round, word building, find the difference and picture talk. Principal Gurmant Kaur Gill appreciated the efforts of the students and the teachers, and said that such activities promoted and nurtured the quest for knowledge among the students and helped them open their minds to know the world around them in a better way. “It was a pleasure watching the energetic performance by the young scholars of the school,” she added. She also gave away the certificates to the winning teams. Headmistress Navjeet Kaur Pahuja, co-ordinator; Abhineet Kaur Sarna and other senior staff members encouraged and congratulated the winners.
