Ludhiana: Four female students of DAV Public School, BRS Nagar, finished among position holders in the Ludhiana District Schools Judo Competition, organised here at Guru Nanak Stadium. The students from across the district took part in U-14, 17 and 19 categories, organised by the Punjab Education Department. Five students from DAV School competed in the U-14 section and four of them won medals. Bronze medal was won by Hazel Thakur (below 36kg), Yadvi (below 40kg) and Krishna (below 44kg). Vidushi Gupta won silver medal in the plus 44kg weight category. The management congratulated the students and their coach Amandeep Singh on this achievement.

WELCOME FIESTA

Sri Aurobindo College of Commerce and Management organised ‘Welcome Fiesta’ to welcome the new batch of students for the academic year 2024-25. The event, held at Maharaja Grand, was a grand success, filled with fun, excitement and a spirit of camaraderie. The event began with an inspiring welcome speech by Principal Vishal Kumar, who emphasised the importance of fostering a sense of community and making the most of the opportunities provided by the institution. A series of cultural performances showcased the talents of the students. From dance performances to musical acts, the event was a testament to the creativity and energy of the new batch. The freshers showcased their talents during the modelling round and question-and-answer session. The highlight of the event was the crowning of Mr and Miss Fresher won by Gavin and Kirat Kamal, respectively. The titles of Early Bird were won by Ishpreet and Anuja Jain; Ms Charming Personality by Amanat Sawhney; Ms Elegance by Vaanya Arora; Ms Vogue by Alisha; Mr Witty by Bhavik Goyal; Mr Charismatic to Japanjot Singh’ and Mr Vogue by Sangam.

Janamasthami celebrations

The festival of Janamasthami was celebrated at Shamrock Christian Senior Secondary School, Hambran Road. Students of KG class were dressed as Lord Krishna and Radha. The students of UKG showcased a dance drama depicting the birth and life of Lord Krishna. Devotional singing and the ‘dahi handi’ were part of the celebration. The students were told about the birth of Lord Krishna and the importance of celebrating the festival. Sweets were distributed among the students. Principal P Singh said such celebrations are important to instil the value of Indian culture and festivals among the students.

Kabaddi tournament

The team of Nankana Sahib Public School, Gill Park, outshined at the zonal level Kabaddi tournament. The players showcased remarkable skills at the tournament organised by Punjab School Education Board at BCM Arya School, Dolan Khurd. The U-19 (girls) team secured third place and Manmeet Kaur Gill and Arashpreet Kaur have been selected for the district-level. The U-19 (boys) team secured the fourth position. Sehejnit Singh Suri has been selected for the district-level tournament. The U-14 (boys) team also succeeded in securing the third position and Aadesh Pratap Singh Gill was selected for the district-level.
