City player Navya Mahajan helped her team clinch the gold medal in the All India Inter-University Badminton Championship held at Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan recently. Teams from sixteen universities from four zones took part in the championship.

A trainee of Mangat Rai Sharma, an NIS-qualified coach from Ludhiana, Navya of Jagdishprasad Jhabarmal Tibrewala University (JJTU), Jhunkhunu, played an important role in her university’s title victory.

In the girls’ section, players of the JJTU recorded emphatic wins to storm into the semi-finals, where they beat Maharishi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak, 2-0, and in the title clash they scored a win over Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, (2-0) and lifted the coveted trophy.

Earlier, Navya represented the country in international tournaments in Uganda and the Netherlands.
