College of Agriculture lifts PAU Youth Fest trophy

Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain presided over the prize distribution ceremony. Addressing the gathering, Jain urged the youth to be farsighted in their approach while remaining grounded in the present. “Think out of box, work hard, cultivate honesty and sincerity, avoid being shirkers, and contribute tremendously to the area of your interest,” he said to the students.
Lauding the PAU for making an unmatched contribution to the nation’s food grain bowl, he observed that balancing education with extra-curricular activities was vital for developing the persona of the youths.
In his remarks, Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, extended heartfelt congratulations to the winners and the participants of the youth festival. “Just as this university is incomplete sans farmers, in the same way, it is incomplete sans youths, who are the real ‘raunak’ of the campus,” he remarked.
For literature, COA and College of Horticulture (COH) won the overall and runners’-up trophies, respectively, while for fine arts and theatre events, COA and COCS bagged the overall and runners-up trophies, respectively.
Besides, COCS and COA bagged the overall and runners-up trophies for heritage events. COCS and the College of Agricultural Engineering (COAE) clinched the top two overall best positions for music events. The College of Basic Sciences (COBS) was adjudged as the best for the cultural procession.
In giddha, COBS, COCS and COH earned the top three positions, while in bhangra, COAE, COA and COBS bagged the top three prizes. In lammi hek wale geet, COA (Ballowal Saunkhri), COCS and COBS secured the top three prizes. Rajbir Singh (COA), Gurleen Kaur (COCS) and Gurveer Singh (COAE) bagged the first three prizes in folk songs.
Among individual prizes, Khushdeep Kaur (COH) and Sukhman Singh (COAE) were declared the best female and male dancers for giddha and bhangra, respectively.
Besides, Vishal Sood (COAE) and Harpreet Kaur (COCS) were adjudged as the best dancers in the male and female category. Yashmita and Yashita of COCS were awarded prizes for the best speaker and the best debater (for), respectively.
Sangun of COHF was adjudged the best debater (against). Gurleen Kaur of COCS and Gurveer Singh of COAE were declared the best artist and the best singer, respectively. Avikash Singh (COA) and Gurpreet Kaur (COH) received Lt Triveni Singh award.
