Despite the intense heat, the political arena is abuzz with activities. The election campaign of Congress candidate Bharat Bhushan Ashu is going on in full swing. Senior Congress leaders Charanjit Singh Channi, Pargat Singh and others are meeting people door-to-door and holding meetings.

On Friday, former railway minister and senior Congress leader Pawan Kumar Bansal during campaigning urged people to support Ashu in the Aggar Nagar area. Bansal said: “In the name of making the state colourful, the Delhi leadership of AAP has made Punjab poor by burdening it with debt. The Punjab Government’s claims of providing 54,000 jobs are proving to be only on paper as unemployed are forced to protest on roads. In the scorching heat, the people are suffering due to power cuts.”

Meanwhile, during an election meeting held at Jawahar Nagar Camp, residents welcomed Ashu by showering flowers upon him.

Besides Jawahar Nagar camp, Ashu also addressed poll meetings at other places, including Pushp Vihar, BRS Nagar, Sita Nagar and Bharat Nagar Chowk.

Former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, MP Gurjit Singh Aujla, MLA Rana Gurjit Singh, MLA Pargat Singh and MLA Sukhwinder Kotli said developments claimed by the state government were actually done during the previous Congress government regime.

“This time the public needs an MLA who is determined to protect the interests of the West segment, not an MLA who bows before people of Delhi,” said Channi.

Ashu while thanking his colleagues said: “I walked alone in the journey of life, and as I walked, it became a caravan.”

Ashu said: “The caravan that you are seeing with me is what I have earned in the past two decades. My real income is my colleagues and the people of my constituency.

Meanwhile, Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring said the winds of change in Punjab would start blowing from Ludhiana West. He said the Congress would win the byelection with a record margin.

Former minister Balwant Singh Ramoowalia on Friday announced his support to the Congress candidate.

Ramoowalia, while wholeheartedly supporting the Congress, criticised the ruling party and warned people for voting in its favour.
