The Congress today protested here against the rise in prices of petrol and diesel, and the withdrawal of power subsidy in the state. They shouted slogans against the state government and also handed over a memorandum to Payal SDM Kritika Goyal.

Former MLA Lakhvir Singh Lakha along with Doraha block president Gurwinder Singh Tinu, Khanna rural block president Harjinder Singh Ikolahi and Machhiwara block president Parminder Tiwari, were among those present.

Lakha said the government’s decision was nothing but a big bluff against the stakeholders — traders, farmers, employees and workers. “When all sections are reeling under the undue pressure of inflation, the recent hike in unjustified,” Lakha added. Party leaders and workers burnt the effigy of the state government and demanded an immediate roll back of the fuel hike.

Meanwhile, in Ludhiana, the District Congress Committee (LDCC Urban) also held a protest against the AAP government. Sanjay Talwar, president, LDCC Urban, said, “The worst affected are the middle-class families who are unable to afford the basic necessities of life.”
