Pargat also requested the media, known as the fourth pillar of democracy, to also play a neutral role to protect democracy and to be fearless in telling the truth and fulfilling its duty towards society.

The MLA also appealed to the local people of Ludhiana West to strengthen the opposition by voting for Congress candidate Bharat Bhushan Ashu. Because, he said, democracy would not be strong without the strength of the opposition. If the opposition is not strong, the ruling party will move towards dictatorship and coercion.
