The police received a complaint in this regard on Sunday.
Two unidentified suspects reportedly allured the dog with some eatables when it was roaming in the street and took it away in their vehicle on October 6, according to its owner Sanjiv Kumar Tyagi, a scientist at the Central Institute of Post Harvesting Engineering and Technology.
Tyagi informed the police that the dog was bought by him for Rs 65,000 about three years ago and it was presented by his son to his fiancé at the time of the ring ceremony, thus making the canine more important for the family.
The complainant suspected that some dog breeder had allegedly stolen the animal which at present cost around Rs 1 lakh.
Sources at the PAU police station revealed that police personnel, led by Babandeep Singh, had started tracking the vehicle, the registration number of which was not clearly legible in the CCTV footage available with the police.
