The councillors had gone to meet the Mayor to raise some issues during which an argument began and their sudden outburst of anger against the Mayor escalated the situation.
The FIR names Kulwant Singh Kanti, husband of councillor Kuldeep Singh, Ward 33; Vishal Gulati, husband of councillor Ruchi Gulati, Ward 73; Jatinder Gorayan, husband of councillor Ruby, Ward 17; Mukesh Khatri, Ward 76; and Gauravjit Gora, councillor, Ward 80, and 20 unidentified persons.
The FIR was registered on the complaint of ASI Saudagar Singh, posted on duty at the Mayor’s office in Zone D. According to the complainant, the booked persons, including 20 unidentified persons, started creating a ruckus in the office and began heated arguments with the Mayor. When the latter was going to attend a public meeting, an attempt was made to stop her in an unfair manner.
BJP district president Rajneesh Dhiman said BJP workers and councillors were not afraid of any such FIR. Their councillors had gone to the Mayor’s office to raise the voice of the people. He himself was sitting in the protest as the district head of the BJP and if the Mayor wants to get registered a case against him also, do it but the party would continue to raise voice of the people.
Notably on August 1, 18 BJP councillors went to Zone D office to meet the Mayor to inform her about issues of their areas. During which, they had an argument with the Mayor. The matter escalated so much that security present outside the Mayor’s office asked the councillors to leave the place. Meanwhile, the angry councillors started sloganeering inside the Mayor’s office itself.
Admn, cops hold talks with party leaders
Despite the registration of a case, including a non-bailable section, the police did not make effort to nab the booked councillors and BJP leaders. Instead, the administration and police officials held several talks with the party leaders to convince them to lift the dharna and hold a meeting with the Mayor. ADCP Kanwalpreet Singh said police investigation in the case was on and the booked persons were not arrested so far.
