Ludhiana, August 1
Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney on Thursday ordered a thorough inspection of all buildings to check commercial use or other illegal activities taking place in basements.
The Municipal Corporation, Commissionerate Police, GLADA, Additional Deputy Commissioner (UD), Ludhiana Improvement Trust, District Fire Officer, and Superintendent Engineer, PWD (provincial division), have been directed to conduct special inspections in their respective areas and submit an action-taken report within a week.
“The inspections will focus on checking if basements are being used for commercial purposes, compliance with fire safety regulations, adherence to building by-laws, and other related issues,” the order read.
The order came in the wake of a tragic incident in Delhi where three students lost their lives due to flooding in a building basement recently.
