Dev Vashisht and Jasnaaz Kaur among boys and girls, respectively, in the below 14 years’ category while Gurmeet Singh and Sukhneet Kaur among boys and girls, respectively, in the above 14 years’ section, were declared the best athletes in the 48th annual athletics meet of Guru Nanak Public School (GNPS), Sarabha Nagar, here, on Monday.

Bhai Veer Singh House bagged the overall trophy and Maharaja Ranjit Singh House won the march past trophy.

A large number of students, representing different houses, took part in track and field events during the meet. Dr Balbir Singh, Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Medical Education and Research, Punjab, declared the meet open. He released colorful balloons to mark the opening of the event. Rupinder Singh, SSP, Vigilance, Ludhiana, was the guest of honour.

Poonampreet Kaur, SDM, Ludhiana west, and Dr Pardeep Kumar Mohindra, Civil Surgeon, Ludhiana, were among other dignitaries present.

Principal Gurbhej Singh Nagi welcomed the guests. He emphasised the importance of sports in holistic development. In his address, the chief guest praised the athletes for their hard work and dedication, underlining the importance of sports in developing character and resilience.

Rupinder Singh gave away prizes to winners and encouraged the students to balance academics with sports.
