Sameer (15) from Dhandari Khurd has been selected to represent India at the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) U-17 Championship, scheduled to be held from September 13 to 27 in Sri Lanka. He is the only player from Punjab to have been invited for the championship.

Sameer carved a niche for himself when he, at the age of 13, played for the famous Round Glass Sports Academy and helped his squad win the title in the U-17 Reliance Youth League. He also managed to bag the ‘Golden Boot’ at the event.

Last year, playing in the I-League (U-17), Sameer made headlines after scoring a hat-trick in the match against FC Goa that led his side to wrap up the issue.

Speaking to this correspondent, Sameer’s coach, Aman Garcha, praised him for his exceptional hard work and dedication. The coach believes Sameer has the potential to don the national jersey soon.

Sameer thanked his coach for harnessing his game, boosting his confidence and motivating him to continue striving for excellence in the sport.
