A mock drill under ‘Operation Shield’ was conducted under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner S Viraj Tidke at the administrative complex here on Saturday.

ADC (D) Sukhpreet Singh Sidhu said coordinated steps were being taken to prepare members of various departments concerned with crisis management.

The initiative was taken keeping in view the need for capacity building among each government official for dealing with any adverse situation following the ongoing tension between the two countries.

Besides organising mock drills, staff of Health Department, Fire Department, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited and civil administration were given tips on proactive, preventive and rescue procedures to be adopted in case of any untoward incident.

Earlier, senior functionaries of the police, led by SSP Gagan Ajit, had organised events for updating SHOs and beat officers posted at various police stations about the standard operational procedures for managing crisis during a war-like situation.
