The fair is to be held at PAU from October 4 to 13. The two sisters have lent their melodious voices and two artistes have performed on the song, “Ve tu charh de Punjab ton main lehende val di,” which was written by leading Punjabi lyricist Bunty Bains and his team.
Talking to The Tribune, Bains said that then DC Jitendra Jorwal had visited the school for blind and discovered the budding singers. “I had recorded a song with them earlier but was contacted by Jorwal again and asked to write lyrics for another song and make a video, too, which would be launched during the 10-day Saras Mela, being held in Ludhiana. We shot the video in Ludhiana and Chandigarh and completed the song within three days. It has come out very well as the two sisters sang extremely well. Our team motivated the young talent,” said Bains.
14-year-old Bhavna said she and her 12-year-old sister Palak were studying at the Government Institute for Blind and were not able to see the world. Palak was visually impaired since birth, while Bhavna lost her eyesight at the age of eight. The girls lost their mother in 2021 in a road accident and their father, Manish Mittal, works as a supervisor at a factory unit. In the mishap, the girls had also suffered fractures in their legs, following which they received treatment for about two months at the PGI, Chandigarh.
Their father lacks the financial resources to give wings to the dreams of his talented children but with the efforts of Jorwal, Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain, and lyricist Bunty Bains, their talent will be given a platform during the Saras Mela. An elated father said that the push had given the girls a lot of confidence.
DC Jain said the mela would be a perfect platform for these two visually impaired artistes. “The first formal launch of their song would definitely give them a boost and we hope that they get their due,” added he.
