Dr Lavnish Chauhan (26), a resident of Ferozepur, died on Tuesday morning after being hit by a speeding car while crossing the Ludhiana-Delhi national highway in Khanna.

Dr Chauhan, who worked at a private hospital in Khanna and resided in a rented accommodation there, was returning home after completing her night shift when she met with the tragedy.

As per information, the impact of the collision was so severe that after she was hit by the car, the victim was thrown into the air and fell on the service road, resulting in her death on the spot.

An eyewitness, Rajinder Singh, while describing the incident he witnessed, stated that Dr Chauhan was trying to cross the highway towards Bhattian when she was severely hit by the car. The doctor seemed to have suffered serious injury on her head which caused her immediate death.

Investigating officer Assistant SI Sukhdev Singh of the Sadak Suraksha Force (SSF) said after getting information about the accident, the SSF team rushed to the spot and seized the vehicle involved in the accident. It took Dr Chauhan to the Civil Hospital in Khanna where doctors declared her brought dead.

Meanwhile, Khanna City SHO inspector Vinod Kumar said a case was registered against the unidentified driver on the charges of causing death due to negligence and rash driving. The errant driver had abandoned the vehicle on the road and fled the scene. Details of the car owner was being procured to identify the driver.
