The Ex-Army Welfare Committee today held a protest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Ludhiana to express their resentment against the recent incident in Patiala wherein a serving Army officer and his son were thrashed by some policemen.

They submitted a memorandum to the district administration officials and demanded strict action be taken against the accused police officials. Protesters said the accused police officials did not deserve any mercy for beating up an Army officer at a public place. Police should ensure strict punishment against all the accused without any prejudice, they added.

The members said an attack on any Army officer was not just an attack on the officer but on the Indian Army itself. They said the state and Central governments should take necessary steps to make sure such incidents are not repeated.
