The Bhartiya Kisan Union (Kadian) held a meeting today under the leadership of state president Harmeet Singh Kadian, raising alarm over the circulation of spurious DAP fertiliser in the market.

Kadian urged the government to take immediate action to prevent fake or sub-standard fertilisers from reaching farmers, especially with the wheat sowing season approaching.

He cited recent reports where 60 per cent of DAP samples failed quality tests, demanding a White Paper from the government to clarify the situation and ensure accountability.

In a related development, the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) has announced a massive farmers’ rally at Mullanpur Mandi on August 24, aimed at pressuring the Punjab Government to withdraw its controversial land pooling scheme.

The policy, which proposes acquiring thousands of acres of fertile land for urban and industrial development, has drawn widespread criticism from farmer unions who call it a veiled land grab.

SKM leaders argue that the scheme threatens Punjab’s agrarian identity and food security and have planned a series of protests.
