Floods affect preparations as exams begin in Ludhiana schools

The term examinations for Classes VI to Class XII began in government schools on September 18, but both teachers and students admit that they are not prepared to perform well. The sudden closure of schools for about 10 days following the floods in Punjab has been cited as the main reason for this.

Teachers maintained that they were not provided sufficient time to complete the syllabus and many portions remained untouched. “Neither the teachers nor the students are confident in these exams. Many concepts remain unclear, so students cannot be expected to perform well. We too are prepared for the same,” said a teacher from a government school in the periphery area, adding that from August 28 to September 7, schools were shut due to floods.

The students shared similar concerns. A Class XII student, son of a migrant labourer, candidly admitted, “It was the Punjabi exam but I did not know the answers because the chapters were not covered. We were looking for answers from other students.”

Teachers feel the exams should have been deferred.
