The Ludhiana police today busted a gang of thieves involved in stealing e-rickshaws and batteries. Three members were arrested by the police, along with 30 batteries of e-rickshaws and one e-rickshaw. Those arrested have been identified as Pritam Diwakar of Sant Vihar, Ravi Kumar of Jalandhar bypass area and Harish Grover of Shivaji Nagar. A case has been registered against the accused.

Additional DCP Sameer Verma, ACP Davinder Chaudhary and SHO, Daresi, Inspector Satwant Singh addressed a press conference regarding the matter. Verma said that after the police got to know about the incidents of battery thefts in the city, it immediately launched an investigation and identified two thieves — Pritam and Ravi. During their questioning, they took the name of Harish, to whom they had been selling the stolen batteries. Arrest of all three led to the recovery of 30 batteries and an e-rickshaw.

Verma further said that Pritam and Ravi had criminal background as several cases of theft had already been registered against them by the police in the past. After coming out on bail, the accused again indulged in thefts.

“Now, the police will procure police remand of the accused and during their questioning, the police would verify the role of the accused in other unsolved battery and e-rickshaw theft incidents. The police would also identify and arrest other gang members, if any,” stated the ADCP.
