There was chaos on Thursday when a 16-year-old girl ended her life by jumping from the seventh floor of the District Court Complex. The incident came to light when her mother started looking for the missing girl.

After getting information about the incident, a senior police officer and officials of the Division No. 5 police station reached the spot. The police sent the body of the deceased for a post-mortem examination.

Investigating officer-cum-court complex police post in-charge said the deceased was identified as Surinder Kaur, alias Beeru, a resident of Manjit Nagar. Today, she had come along with her mother, whose divorce case was pending in the court. When her mother was at the advocate’s cabin, she suddenly disappeared and jumped from the seventh floor of the complex.

An ASI said as per the girl’s mother, her daughter was living with her grandmother Balwinder Kaur at Manjit Nagar in Ludhiana. She was undergoing treatment for depression and it could be the reason behind the extreme step, he said. Another possible reason could be the ongoing divorce case of her parents, he said.

Inspector Balwant Singh, SHO, Division No. 5 police station, said girl’s mother had told the police that her daughter’s ninth class result was declared and she had scored good marks.

Suspecting no foul play, inquest proceedings were initiated into the matter by the police.
