SMO, Civil Hospital, Ahmedgarh, Dr Jyoti Kapoor said office-bearers and activists of various social organisations led by Rotary Club president and patron, Social Welfare Organisation, Tarsem Garg had organised events in coordination with healthcare officials of their respective localities.

“Having received instructions in connection with the aims of the National Programme for Prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases, we called meetings of office-bearers of various medical, social, educational and constitutional organisations for holding seminars, workshops and camps to spread awareness about the causes and consequences of hypertension that has been identified as a silent killer,” said Dr Kapoor.

Addressing a seminar organised at MGMN Senior Secondary School by the local unit of Rotary Club, Dr Jyoti Kapoor cautioned that irrational consumption of oily and junk food, drinking and smoking besides sluggish lifestyle were major factors behind diseases like hypertension, stroke, blindness, mental distress, tension, renal and hepatic disorders.

Speakers including Dr Puneet Dhawan and Dr Sunit Hind said that the theme for the year 2025, ‘Measure your blood pressure accurately, control it, live longer’, if followed in letter and spirit by patients and healthcare personnel, can prevent many fatal emergencies.

The theme focuses on combating low awareness rates worldwide, especially in low to middle-income areas with accurate blood pressure measurement methods, said Dr Hind, addressing police personnel at DAV Senior Secondary School, during the concluding session of a workshop.

Citing observations on hypertension, physicians said the disease was more prevalent among the urban population than the rural populace.
