Police have also arrested four contract killers who were hired by the duo. They have been identified as Amritpal Singh alias Balli (26), Gurdeep Singh alias Manni (25), Sonu Singh (24), all residents of Nandpur, and Sagardeep Singh alias Teji (30) of Dhandari Kalan. Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi, a key contract killer, remains at large.

The assailants, armed with sharp weapons, murdered the woman on the Dehlon bypass Saturday night. The incident occurred when Lipsy along with her husband Anokh was returning home after attending a party at a resort in Pohir village on the Ludhiana-Malerkotla highway.

Anokh had claimed that some unidentified miscreants had allegedly taken away their Maruti Ritz car, mobile and jewellery after attacking him and his wife when the couple stopped at a deserted place on the Dehlon bypass.

However, police investigation revealed that Anokh Mittal, the victim's husband, was the key conspirator.

He conspired with his woman friend, with whom he was allegedly having an extramarital affair. Together, they hired five contract killers for Rs 2.50 lakh, paying Rs 50,000 in advance. The remaining amount was to be paid after the murder, said officials.
