All preparations were done and the stage was set for the inauguration of a bridge across the Buddha Nullah near Chand Cinema by Chief Minister Bhagwant Maan but his visit was cancelled on Tuesday after deaths of some people due to spurious liquor were reported in Amritsar. The bridge will be opened later.

The work of the bridge near Chand Cinema has been completed and it is awaiting inauguration now. It has been constructed for the convenience of the people but they continue to adopt a longer route as the bridge is yet to be opened.

The old bridge was declared unsafe in 2011 and in 2018 and was closed to heavy traffic. In 2021, it was closed to traffic, which was being diverted to an adjacent bridge. People coming from the Jalandhar bypass and going towards the bypass have to take an alternate longer route.

Sunil Kumar, a resident of Salem Tabri, said the bridge was built for the convenience of the people but they were not being able to use as it had not been inaugurated so far.
