Ludhiana, July 31
The Democratic Teachers’ Union today held a meeting through video conferencing, condemning the Education Department for pushing for more enrolments despite not being able to address infrastructure and staff strength-related issues at numerous government schools of the district.
The meeting was held under the leadership of the union’s district president Daljit Singh Samrala. Issues pertaining to the promotion of teachers of primary and secondary schools, and cases of irregularities in the master cadre seniority list were also discussed.
The teachers alleged that DEO Primary Education was pressuring the staff to increase enrolment, four months into the session. They voiced that the exercise would not bear fruit till the department ensured ‘proper’ infrastructure and hired ample teachers to provide quality education to students opting for an education in the district’s government schools.
The DTF members said they had decided to meet the DEOs concerned tomorrow and if no feasible solution was arrived at, they planned to organise a strike from the second week of the month.
