The suspect, identified as Krishan, of Basti Mansian Wali in Zira, Ferozepur, is an operative of foreign-based gangster Arshdeep Singh, alias Arsh Dala. Police teams also recovered one pistol, along with two cartridges, from his possession.

As per information, two bike-borne individuals had opened fire at the jewellery showroom in Jagraon on March 5 to intimidate the owner, who had also received an extortion call from gangster Arsh Dala. In this regard, a case had been registered under Section 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 25 of the Arms Act at the Jagraon city police station on March 5.

The DGP said Krishan opened fire at the jewellery showroom in Jagraon on the directions of his foreign handler Arsh Dala. Further investigation was on in the case.

ADGP, AGTF, Promod Ban, said following intel and human-based inputs, police teams tracked Krishan in Sadarpur village, under the jurisdiction of the Sidhwan Bet police station.

When teams of the AGTF, supervised by AIG Sandeep Goel and DSP Rajan Parminder Singh, in a joint operation with the Ludhiana rural police intercepted Krishan at Sadarpur village, the latter opened fire at the police team in an attempt to evade arrest, prompting the police to retaliate in self-defence.

“During the exchange of fire, Krishan sustained bullet injury on his right leg. The latter was admitted to the local Civil Hospital and said to be in a stable condition,” the ADGP said, adding that police teams had recovered a pistol from his possession.

SSP, Ludhiana rural, Ankur Gupta, said a fresh case was registered at the Sidhwan Bet police station in this regard. Further investigation was on in the matter.
