Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS), Kasabad, quelled strong resistance from Dasmesh Senior Secondary School, Gill road, before romping home with the boys’ section title section in the Junior Ludhiana District Baseball Tournament being held at Government Girls Senior Secondary Smart School, Gill village, near here on Saturday.

In the final, GSSS, Kasabad, got the better of their opponents 7-5 to lift the winners’ trophy. Sukhwant Singh Manish accounted for two runs each for the winning side.

Earlier, in the semi-finals, GSSS, Kasabad, outwitted Guru Nanak Model School, Dholewal, 6-3 and Dasmesh Senior Secondary School overwhelmed GSSS, Gill village, 10-0 to set up the title clash.

GSSS, Gill village, edged out Guru Nanak Model School, Dholewal, 13-5 to secure the third position. Sukhdev Singh Aulakh, president, Punjab Baseball Association, gave away the prizes.

Matches in the girls’ section started today in which twelve teams are vying for the top honours. In the first match, RS Model Senior Secondary School, Shastri Nagar, prevailed over Khalsa Baseball Club 1-0. In other matches, BCM School, Focal Point, beat Guru Nanak Baseball Club 1-0; Teja Singh Sutantar Memorial School outpaced Guru Nanak International Public School, Model Town, 8-5; Dasmesh Senior Secondary School, Gill road, pipped Gill Baseball Club 9-8; Government Senior Secondary School, Mallah, blanked RS Model Senior Secondary School 5-0 and Government Girls Senior Secondary Smart School, Gill village, outplayed BCM School, Focal Point 8-2. — OC
