On Thursday, Congress candidate Bharat Bhushan Ashu filed his nominations in the presence of senior leaders of the party. Talking to The Tribune, former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi levelled serious allegations against Arvind Kejriwal of “finishing” Hindu leadership/faces in Punjab.

Without mincing words, he said whether prominent Hindu leaders such as Bharat Bhushan Ashu, Sham Sunder Arora or MLAs like Raman Arora from AAP itself, it was Kejriwal’s agenda to portray wrong image of the Hindu leaders as he himself wanted to be the lone prominent Hindu face in Punjab. His focus was only on the state now, said the former CM.

He said by offering the MLA ticket to Sanjeev Arora, Kejriwal has in fact degraded the former as he himself wants to be in the Rajya Sabha.

Channi also alleged that before the death of former AAP MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi, he had visited him and discussed with him how Kejriwal and other leaders like him were not letting him do any work in his constituency.“Gogi wanted to join the Congress again but I told him to justify the mandate of the public and be with AAP for some more time,” he said.
