City lad, Lakshay Sharma added another medal in his kitty when he won the silver in the Senior North Zone Inter-State Badminton Championship, held September 4 to 8 at Chandigarh.

Representing Punjab in the men’s singles category, Lakshay (18) made his presence felt by finishing the first runner-up to fetch the silver. Earlier, Lakshay had bagged the silver in the north zone championship two years ago at Jammu.

At Chandigarh, Lakshay, in the quarterfinal, overpowered Abhinn of Delhi whom he beat in three sets 21-8, 19-21 and 21-13 and in the semi-final, he was pitted against Dishant from Haryana. Dishant drew from the competition when the score was 15-all, facilitating Lakshay to enter the final.

In the title clash, Lakshay waged a spirited battle against Pranay from Rajasthan before going down 21-8, 8-21 and 18-21 (18-all).
