It was back to the pavilion for regional leaders of almost all political parties after campaigning for Ludhiana West assembly bypoll came to an end on Tuesday evening.

Elected members, including legislators, councillors and sarpanches, who remained busy campaigning for candidates of their respective parties, organised routine meetings with the public at their places and later visited government offices for getting pending works done by coordinating with officials concerned.

However, the leaders continued coordinating with office-bearers and activists of various organisations, who were roped in for supporting their respective candidates. Some of them camped at premises situated on the outskirts of the city for organising meetings to review the progress of door-to-door canvassing being done by leaders roped in by them.

Block Congress president Deepak Sharma said he along with his party leaders had conducted a series of meetings on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning for resolution of issues which had piled up during the past fortnight.

“Though we have been trying to redress issues of residents of our wards even when we were busy with campaigning till yesterday, we tried to meet a maximum number of them as physical meetings are more satisfying,” said Sharma.

Amargarh legislator Prof Jaswant Singh Gajjanmajra said normal routine was resumed after several days on Wednesday when he started his day with morning meetings with party members and residents coming for the redress of their grievances.

“Though senior functionaries of various committees constituted for assisting residents had been facilitating their work during my absence, I devoted more time today so that the maximum number of people could be heard personally,” said Gajjanmajra.
