Ludhiana lad shines at national gatka event

In a stirring display of discipline, passion and cultural pride, Sahibvir Singh, a Class XII Arts student from Nankana Sahib Public School, Gill Park, clinched the first position in the Free Soti event at the National Gatka Competition held at Gurdwara Langar Sahib, Nanded, recently.

Organised by Singh Brothers Sports Academy and Gurdwara Langar Sahib, the open tournament saw participation from 18 contenders across various states. But it was Sahibvir’s precision, agility and unwavering focus that set him apart.

“Gatka is not just a sport for me—it’s a way of life,” said Sahibvir, his eyes gleaming with determination. “I train for three to four hours every day. It keeps me grounded, focused and connected to my roots. I want to carry this art forward and inspire others,” he added.

The victory is not an isolated moment but part of a growing journey. Sahibvir has consistently demonstrated excellence in Sikh martial arts, earning accolades at both regional and national levels.

School Principal Harmeet Kaur said, “Sikh martial art embodies discipline, courage and resilience. Sahibvir’s achievement is a testament to what regular practice and inner strength can accomplish. We’re proud of him and the mentors guiding him.”

Behind the scenes, Sahibvir credits his coach and family for their unwavering support.

“My coach never lets me slack,” he shared with a smile, adding, “Even on days when I am tired, he reminds me why I started. My parents have always encouraged me to pursue Gatka with passion.”

Classmates and teachers at NSPS echoed the pride. “He’s an inspiration to all of us,” said a fellow student, adding, “He balances academics and training so well. Watching him perform is like watching poetry in motion.”

As the echoes of clashing sticks fade from the tournament grounds, Sahibvir’s journey continues—with deeper resolve and a growing sense of purpose. His story is not just about winning a medal, but about preserving a tradition, embracing discipline and proving that passion, when nurtured, can carve paths to greatness.
