Ludhiana beat Patiala by 5 wickets in league match
Ludhiana beat Patiala by five wickets in the first league match in the Punjab State Inter-District (U-23) One Day Limited Overs Cricket Tournament being organised by the Punjab Cricket Association. The match was played at Government College Ground, Ropar, on Sunday.
Ludhiana won the toss and chose to field. The decision to invite Patiala to bat first turned out to be a wise one as the latter were bundled out for a mere 123 runs in 41 overs. Prabhjit Singh was the lone batsman who put up some resistance. He scored 51 runs off 98 balls with the help of three boundaries and one six while Yuvraj Chalana remained unbeaten on 18. Anantbir Singh Gill chipped in with 16 runs.
For Ludhiana, Chintan Randhan and Shabd Tangri captured seven wickets between them. Chintan bowled eight overs, gave away 24 runs and took four wickets while Shabd grabbed three wickets for 27 runs in nine overs. Karminder Guard scalped two victims after conceding 19 runs.
Ludhiana made the required runs in 33.5 overs after losing five wickets. Saksham Vij, Bhavish Sethi and Rajveer Soni were the main contributors, making 31, 29 and 24 not out, respectively. For the losing side, Damanpreet Singh sent down nine overs, grabbing three wickets for 37 runs.
