Ludhiana girls and Amritsar boys emerged champions in the 19th Senior Punjab State Baseball Championship, organised by the Ludhiana District Baseball Association, at the Government Girls Senior Secondary Smart School ground, Gill village, near here. Twelve teams in the girls’ section and 14 teams in the boys’ section took part in the championship.

In the girls’ final, Ludhiana proved too good for their opponents from Jalandhar whom they routed 11-0 to clinch the title. The main architects of their victory were Ramandeep Kaur, Raj Rani Soni, Nishu and Navdeep, who scored two runs each.

In the match to decide the third position, Ferozepur prevailed over Gurdaspur 5-3 to claim the second runners-up trophy.

However, in the boys’ section, Ludhiana waged a spirited battle against Amritsar, before losing it narrowly (0-2) and had to content with the runners-up trophy. Ajay and Rohan scored apiece each to steer Amritsar lift winners’ trophy.

In the hard-line cup match, Patiala overpowered Moga 2-0 to secure the third position.
