Ludhiana girls proved their superiority as they clinched the top spot in handball (U-19) in the ongoing 69th Punjab Inter-District School Games being organised by the Punjab Education Department at Government Senior Secondary School ground, Punjab Agricultural University, here on Thursday. Hoshiarpur girls finished runners-up and Ropar secure the third position.

At Government Senior Secondary School ground, Mullanpur Dakha, in football (girls U-17), Pathankot beat Fazilka 2-0, Ludhiana blanked Nawanshahr 9-0, Barnala defeated Muktsar 6-0, Ropar drubbed Fazilka 12-0, Jalandhar overpowered Gurdaspur 2-0, Patiala overwhelmed Tarn Taran 15-0, Fatehgarh Sahib scrambled past Ferozepur 1-0, Amritsar trounced Ferozepur 8-0, Moga outplayed Gurdaspur 2-0 and Jalandhar got the better of Mansa 2-0.

In weightlifting, at Naresh Chand Sports Stadium, Khanna, in the boys’ section, in the below 98kg category, Onkar Singh (Ludhiana) proved his mettle by bagging the top position and Paramjot Singh (Hoshiarpur) secured the second position, while Veer Singh (PIS Patiala) finished third.

In the plus 98kg group, the top three positions were secured by Manjot Singh Bhinder, Imaanvir Singh and Abhijit Singh, respectively.
