Ludhiana girls proved too good for their opponents from Ferozepur whom they defeated 6-2 to bag the winners’ trophy in the 13th Junior Punjab State Baseball Championship being held at the Government Senior Secondary Smart School ground, Gill village, near here on Sunday.

In the final, hosts Ludhiana faced a little challenge and wrapped up the issue comfortably. Asha, Prachi, Sanchi and Ritu scored one run each to steer their side to an easy win.

In the boys’ section, in quarter-finals, Ferozepur along with Amritsar, Ludhiana and Sangrur scripted victories to secure their berths in the semi-finals. Ferozepur faced a stiff resistance from Patiala before coming out victorious 4-3, Amritsar overwhelmed Fazilka 8-1, Ludhiana drubbed Muktsar 10-0 and Sangrur outplayed Mansa 6-1 to complete the semi-final line-up.

Tomorrow, in the semifinals, Ludhiana will take on Sangrur while Amritsar will clash with Ferozepur. Sukhdev Singh Aulakh, president, Punjab Baseball Association, handed over the trophy to Ludhiana girls.
