Man arrested for throwing acid on wife, daughter

The Focal Point police today claimed to have arrested a man for throwing acid on his wife, daughter and brother-in-law. The suspect has been identified as Rajvir Singh, a resident of Mehal Kalan, Barnala.

Station House Officer (SHO) Inspector Amandeep Singh Brar said on September 19, Jatinder Kaur, alias Jyoti, had lodged a police complaint that she got married to Rajvir about seven years ago and she also has a daughter from the wedlock. The woman had also filed a divorce case in a court.

The SHO said the woman had stated that on September 19, the court had to announce the verdict in the divorce case filed by her. On the intervening night of September 18 and 19, the victim’s husband barged into her house by scaling the wall and threw acid on the woman, her brother and daughter. After registering a case, the police conducted a raid and nabbed the suspect near the Dehlon chowk.

The police said the man had suspicion that the divorce case verdict would be against him due to which he attempted to kill his wife.
