A pall of gloom descended on a village in Mullanpur following the death of 52-year-old Satpal Singh, who was crushed to death when the roof of his cattle shed collapsed on Wednesday.

Satpal, known to his neighbours as Kala, was sleeping in the shed, a routine he had followed for years. As the roof collapsed, he got buried beneath the rubble. After the incident, his family and fellow villagers rushed to the scene and cleared the debris but their efforts went in vain as Satpal had already succumbed to his injuries.

Officials, including naib tehsildar Karamjit Singh, reached the scene and assured administrative support to the grieving family.
