The family was yet to come to terms with the death of Mandeep Kaur, their daughter, who died in a fake car accident about a month ago, when they received another shock that her husband’s younger brother Gurjot Singh Khaira was involved in her 'murder'.
Though the Delta Police in Canada police has already arrested Gurjot for alleged second-degree murder and indignity to human remains, the family are unable to comprehend how they would pursue the case for ensuring justice for their daughter.
Jagdev Singh Jaggi, Mandeep’s father, said she had shifted to Canada about six years ago on study basis and had got married in a family of Lodhiwal near Sidhwan Bet village seven months ago.
“Though I, along with my son’s family, was living in another locality of Canada, I couldn’t apprehend any danger to the life of my daughter,” said Jaggie, maintaining that he received information about the car accident which killed her daughter two days after the tragedy.
It was only after cremation of Mandeep on November 6, that the family came to know about the alleged indignity committed by Gurjot to Mandeep’s body by shifting it from one place to another. Initially, the Delta Police charged Gurjot with indignity to human remains, but on November 25, the Crown Counsel approved an additional charge of second-degree murder against Gurjot.
The Gujjarwal family came to know about the murder charges on Thursday when Jagdev returned to his home here after immersing the ashes of his daughter. Mandeep’s mother Jaswinder Kaur is still in shock and wants to know the sequence of events leading to her ‘brutal murder’.
“She is upset and not ready to believe that even I don’t know more than what the Delta police has updated on its website,” says Jagdev, maintaining that he would be returning to Canada to know about the reason behind his daughter’s fate.
