Man murdered over land at Basrawan village, migrant labourer suspect

The Sadar police have initiated a probe into an incident in which a migrant labourer from Bihar, along with his master, had allegedly murdered a farmer of Basrawan village by attacking him with sharp-edged weapons on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.

Though the police are yet to ascertain the exact sequence of events and verify the allegations levelled by the complainant, Jaspreet Singh of Basrawan village alleged that the main accused, Vikas Lal Yadav of Harsher village in Muzaffarpur (Bihar), had killed his father Kanwaljit Singh Billu at the instance of his master Harjit Singh Sekhon of Phullanwal village.

According to Jaspreet Singh, Harjit Singh Sekhon had developed enmity with his father as he (Harjit Singh) wanted to purchase land owned by the deceased, which he did not want to sell.

Raikot DSP Rachhpal Singh Dhindsa informed that the police led by SHO Sadar Narinder Singh had initiated a probe into the sequence of events leading to the murder of Billu, who according to the complainant, was attacked with a sickle by Vikas Lal Yadav while Harjit Singh Sekhon caught hold of the victim.

“When my father did not return from the fields, I along with my cousin went there to search for him. While Harjit Singh Sekhon had caught hold of my father tightly, Vikas Lal Yadav was hitting my father on the head with a sickle when we reached there,” Jaspreet Singh told the police, maintaining that the duo had run away from the spot after committing the crime.

Jaspreet Singh further said that Sekhon had developed enmity with his family as he wanted to purchase a piece of land which the victim family did not want to part with.

The deceased had reached the fields on his motorcycle bearing the number FU 5884.

The police are trying to track the accused by visiting hospitals and clinics as it suspects that Vikas Lal Yadav was also hurt in the scuffle.

The accused were booked under Sections 103 (1), 3, (5) of the BNS.
