A flare-up in a rivalry between two local groups in Ludhiana led to a shooting incident on Thursday night at Kaunke Kalan village near Jagraon just hours after an earlier clash at the city’s court complex on Thursday.

The victim identified as Lovekaran Singh of Kaunke Kalan, was reportedly intercepted and shot at by assailants while returning from a local shrine.

As per the information, Lovekaran Singh was on his way back when an SUV began to pursue him. The occupants successfully blocked his path and opened fire. Sources indicate that the attackers may have discharged the weapon twice, with one bullet striking the victim near the shoulder and narrowly missing his chest. The assailants immediately fled from the spot.

Injured Lovekaran Singh was initially rushed to Jagraon Civil Hospital from where he was transferred to DMCH Ludhiana last night.

Around noon on Thursday, a physical fight erupted between the two groups on the first floor of the Ludhiana court complex.

This altercation, linked to an existing case (filed in 2022) in Jagraon, resulted in injuries to three persons from the rival faction — Govind Singh, Baljit, and Gurmeet. The city police had already registered a cross case against both the groups in the scuffle that took place at the court complex.

According to Surjit Singh, SHO Sadar police station, an attempt to murder case was being registered based on the statement provided by the injured victim. Lovekaran belongs to the same group whose three members were assaulted in the earlier court complex clash, strongly suggesting the night shooting was a retaliatory act.
