A man was shot in the hand during a dispute during a wedding in the Ishwar Colony area here. The incident occurred on Friday night when the victim, Balwinder Singh (26), attended his friend’s wedding. A disagreement broke out between Balwinder and two other persons, leading to one of them firing a gunshot that hit Balwinder’s hand.

Balwinder was rushed to the Civil Hospital. He was stated to be out of danger now. The police launched a probe into the incident and initiated proceedings to register a case in the matter.

According to inspector Harshveer Singh, SHO, Sadar police station, an FIR was being registered against the person who opened fire and further investigation would be launched.

The victim, a resident of Guru Angad Dev Colony, said he had attended his friend’s wedding and was participating in the Jago ceremony when the dispute arose. He alleged that one of the young man fired a gunshot, hitting him in the hand.

The police are currently investigating the matter and are trying to identify the person responsible for firing the gunshot. The police said further action would be taken once the inquiry was complete. It was also yet unclear whether the weapon used in the firing was licensed or unlicensed.
